Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran is set to star in the upcoming film of Meghna Gulzar, tentatively titled Daayra after Ayushmann Khurrana exited the project due to scheduling conflicts. Prithviraj is expected to portray a police officer in a storyline inspired by a real and troubling incident.

Prithviraj Sukumaran joins Meghna Gulzar’s Daayra

According to a report from India Today, Prithviraj Sukumaran was approached after Ayushmann Khurrana and Sidharth Malhotra withdrew due to overlapping commitments for Daayra a film by Meghna Gulzar. Sources close to the production exclusively told India Today Digital that Prithviraj will be seen as a cop in the film. The source said, “After Ayushmann Khurrana and Sidharth Malhotra exited Daayra due to scheduling conflicts, Prithviraj was approached. He connected with the script and the film’s message. His role is essential in driving the narrative, while Kareena’s character will show her in a new light, exuding strength, vulnerability, and intuition. Prithviraj has heard the script and is very excited about it. However, he hasn’t signed the film on dotted lines as yet.”

Ayushmann Khurrana’s Exit

Ayushmann Khurrana’s departure from Daayra is linked to various commitments. It included an extensive musical tour across major U.S. cities and upcoming projects like Border 2. He has collaborated with Karan Johar, Guneet Monga Kapoor, and Maddock Films. Due to conflicting schedules, Ayushmann opted not to continue with Daayra, opening the door for Prithviraj.

Prithviraj’s recent and upcoming projects

Prithviraj Sukumaran was recently seen in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. He played the antagonist alongside Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff. He also starred in Aadujeevitham, based on Benyamin’s acclaimed novel. The film depicted the harrowing journey of Najeeb, an immigrant labourer trapped in slavery in the Middle East.

Looking ahead, Prithviraj has completed the third schedule of his directorial venture L2E: Empuraan. It is a sequel to the 2019 hit Lucifer. The film, featuring Mohanlal, has generated significant buzz as fans eagerly anticipate the return of Mohanlal’s iconic character, Stephen Nedumpally. L2E: Empuraan is set to be released in multiple languages.
